FESTIVAL DATES IN LADHAK


Festival: Dosmochey, 

One of the most popular in Ladha and celebrated every year simultaneously in Leh and the monasteries of Diskit and Likir, in february. 

Venue: Leh & Likir & Diskir

Festival: Yargon Tungshak

 During people from far and near gather to witness the well-known Cham Dance aka Mask Dance. The zeal to celebrate this festival is quite apparent from the flamboyancy of the region. Performers dressed up in multi-color attire and big masks will cast a magical spell on you. A unique combination of loud drum beats and low-level syllables is a strange melody, which makes this festival even more interesting.

Festival: Stok Guru Tsechu or the oracles festival

The oracles of Stok are laymen prepared by the monks so that they can call upon the spirit of divinities and predict the future of the village.

Festival: Saka Dawa or Buddha Purnima or Vesak festival 

It is to celebrate the birth of the Buddha, His enlightenment and his Parinirvana.

Festival : Hemis Tsechu 

It is to celebrate the anniversary of Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche), the founder of Tibetan Buddhism. Hemis abrite le plus grand thangka (peinture traditionnelle tibétaine) du monde. Ce thangka, haut de deux étages, est dévoilé une fois tous les 12 ans. Il a été déroulé en 2016 et sera présenté de nouveau en 2028.

Festival: Ladakh Polo Festival 

One of the festivals which is all about thrill and excitement is the Polo Festival in Ladakh. A heritage game which showcases the traditional culture of the region, it is accompanied by music, dance and other celebrations. Attending this festival can really be a wonderful experience. You will also get the chance to taste the unique cuisine of Ladakh along with the handicrafts of the region. If you need one more reason to visit Ladakh with your family and friends, this is definitely one of them.

Festival: Ladakhi Losar 

The festival is to start of the new year in Ladhak and is one of the most important socio-religious festival. It last around 2 weeks but the main celebrations take place during the first 3 days.

Festival: Silk Route Festival  

This vibrant new celebration of Nubra Valley culture includes archery contests, camel riding, dances and traditional food stalls

The festival is being organized by Tegar Thundel Tsogspa in collaboration with Himalayan Cultural Heritage Foundation (HCHF) with focus on preserving and promoting rich culture and tradition while aspiring to open up to the outside world....

Festival: Ladakh Festival 

The festival is being organized by the tourism office of Jammu and Cachemire. Divers cultural programs are prepared like traditional dances and music, archery contests, and polo. This festival is a greta opportunity for tourist to discover the culture and way of life of the Ladhaki people.

    After meeting your guide and driver at New Delhi International Airport, proceed to Guesthouse or Hotel for check in.

    DELHI.

    Breakfast at the hotel and meeting with the guide. A day in the city of Delhi, capital of India. A fascinating, complex and contradictory city, filled with beauty, dynamism and where the past coexists with the present.  In the morning we will visit the red fort. Lunch. In the afternoon, visit the collections of the National Museum. Pass in front of Raj Ghat, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial, India Gate, Presidential Palace and Parliament. 

    Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

    DELHI - LEH.

    Breakfast at the hotel and meeting with the guide. Morning flight to Leh, capital of the ancient Kingdom of Ladakh at 3500m altitude and starting point for the discovery of the Indus Valley. Lunch. Free time to acclimatize to the altitude before strolling in the local market. 

    Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

    LEH.

    Breakfast at the hotel and meeting with the guide. Departure for the monastery of Hemis, the largest of Ladakh where 500 monks still live there. You will attend the ceremonies of the Hemis Festival, one of the most famous in the region. It is held to commemorate the birth of Master Padmasambhava, the founder of Tantric Buddhism in Tibet. Lunch. On the way back, visit of Shey Palace, built on a rocky outcrop that houses a 12-meter high golden copper Buddha. Then, the Stok Palace, home of the last king of Ladakh. Discovery of the imposing Thiksey monastery nicknamed “the little Potala”, hanging on the side of a hill and offering a magnificent view of the Indus Valley.

    LEH - CHUMATHANG - LAKE TSOMORIRI (220 KM).

    Breakfast at the hotel and meeting with the guide. Departure for Chumathang, known for its hot springs where it is possible to bathe. Lunch. Stop in the village of Sumdah for a tasting of yak milk tea. Continuation to Tsomoriri Lake, installation in your camp. Discovery on foot around. 

    Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.

    LAKE TSOMORIRI.

    Breakfast at the camp and meeting with the guide. Day to discover the breath-taking beauty of the pristine landscapes of this Tibetan plateau where grazing herds of wild donkeys (kyangs). Quiet walk (2 km, 1h approx.) to admire the beautiful and mythical Lake Tsomoriri with turquoise waters, surrounded by arid mountains. Lunch along the way. 

    Dinner and overnight at the camp.

    LAKE TSOMORIRI - LEH (280 KM).

    Breakfast at the camp and meeting with the guide. Early morning, drive to Lake Tsokar (Salt Lake). The region is home to a nomadic population that raises flocks of goats that provide the famous pashmina wool. Visit a school before taking the road through the Puga Valley. Lunch. Continue to Thugke Gompa then Leh via Taglang Pass (5359 m). This national road is considered the 2nd highest road in the world. 

    Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

    LEH - DHA HANU (255 KM).

    Breakfast at the hotel and meeting with the guide. Road to Dha Hanu Valley and lunch. Meeting with representatives of the Drokpas tribe which has more than 3000 members scattered in villages, living in perfect cultural and economic self-sufficiency. Scientists claim they would be the pure descendants of the “Aryans”. Their traditional costume is a unique show. Lunch and continuation to the camp. 

    Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.

    DHA HANU - LAMAYURU - LEH (150 KM).

    Breakfast at the camp and meeting with the guide. Discovery of Lamayuru, the oldest Tibetan monastery of Ladakh, established by Rinchen Zangpo (A famous Tibetan translator and scholar). Built on a hill in the entrance of a gorge, far from any civilization at the heart of a moonscape. Lunch. Then discovery of the perched monastery of Rizong in the grand valley. Road towards Leh with a stop at the nunnery of Chulichan nested in a forest. Then, drive to Leh. 

    Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

    LEH - NUBRA (120 KM).

    Breakfast at the hotel and meeting with the guide. Road to Nubra – long forbidden because strategic military point between Pakistan and China – by taking the Khardung La pass, the highest road in the world culminating at 5580 m. Lunch. Then discovery of the Valley of Flowers – or Forbidden Valley – by camel. The panorama is breathtakingly beautiful. Installation in the camp and relaxing time around a fire rocked by music. 

    Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.

    NUBRA - LEH (150 KM).

    Breakfast at the hotel and meeting with the guide. Visit the monastery of Diskit then return to Leh. Photo stops to immortalize these breath-taking landscapes of majesty. Lunch along the way. Discovery of the temple of Jokhang *, the first Buddhist temple built in Tibet and certainly the most sacred. Walk in a village for an encounter with Tibetan astrologers. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

    LEH - DELHI.

    Breakfast at the hotel and meeting with the guide. Transfer to the airport and fly to Delhi. Upon arrival, visit the Qutab Minar *. Lunch. In the afternoon, visit the old city: Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in the country, then walk to the Chandni Chowk market. 

    Transfer to the airport back to Delhi.

    Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Delhi.

    Breakfast at the hotel and meeting with the guide. Flight back home or onward to your next adventures.
